About Us

"Mom, can I read this?" is meant to be a fun quick way to share information on books and determine if what your kids are reading is what you want them to read.

When my oldest started to read, I did what I thought every good mother should do.  I read EVERYTHING he did.  My recreational reading consisted of  Magic Treehouse, Junie B Jones, and Horrible Harry.  It didn't take long for me to re-name myself "The Juvenile Fiction Junkie", and my son and I had some great times reading.

I will read anything my kids do, but prefer Fantasy or Teen Romances.  Our family enjoys books on tape and can often be found listening to some great story (long or short).  I received my B.S. in Business with a major in Finance from the University of Utah.  My all-time favorite book is The Hundred Dresses, although I think everyone can have lots of favorites!   My favorite classic is a toss up between Pride and Prejudice and The Count of Monte Cristo, while my current favorite Young Adult fiction is Hunger Games. My favorite Harry Potter is Azkaban (Book 3), while my favorite picture book is Don't Let Pigeon Drive the Bus.  For a serious read, The Book Thief was intriguing, and I think everyone should read The Giver at some point.
I love to read and enjoy sharing it with my kids.  I will pick reading or listening to a book over TV or a movie any day, and hope that my excitement will rub off on anyone who may need a little push.
Happy Reading
~Liz

Each year for Christmas my kids get a new book from Grandma.  A year ago my 15 year old told me that she really likes it when I find a new book series for her (no pressure there).  Being a bit particular in what I read, and what I allow my kids to read, I spent hours perusing reviews of different books.  I'd come across a book I thought would be good, only to find that it contained subject matter I didn't think was appropriate.  Now, I'm not such a stickler that if a girl kisses her boyfriend or someone breaks a few rules I'm going to ban the book in my house; I mean, this is real life and all of that.  The problem is, many of the books out there portray teenage intimacy, drinking, cheating in school and what have you, as normal and ok.  What is a mom to do?  So when my sister suggested a blog of books that we have read, enjoyed, and not found offensive, I was all over it.

I love reading!  One of my favorite things in the world is when I find a book so good that all I want to do is read, neglecting my house and throwing food at the kids while they watch TV so I can finish the story. I enjoy all genres, and have read more wonderful books than I can count, as well as some that I would sooner forget.

My goal with this book blog is to help other moms find books that they and their children can enjoy, without worrying about what they might come across.

As a former military wife I have lived all over, including Alaska, Germany, Texas and currently Oklahoma.  I have 6 children ranging in ages from 2 - 16 years old, and I absolutely love being a mom!  I earned my B.S. degree from Brigham Young University in Psychology with a minor Family Science, and I harbor a secret dream to be a contestant on the Price is Right.
