Dear John

Dear John
Nicholas Sparks
Adult

Knowing what I know about Nicholas Sparks and his love of killing off main characters, I was pleasantly surprised at the survival rate in this one. :)

When Savannah (a habitat for humanity volunteer) and John (an enlisted soldier in the Army) meet on a beach in North Carolina, their mutual attraction quickly grows into a lasting love. Although the two come from seeming different backgrounds, their personalities match and each longs to be with the other. Savannah is anxiously waiting for John to finish his tour of duty, and John wanting to settle down with the Savannah until the fateful 9/11 changes everything. John feels it is his duty to re-enlist. And sadly, the long separation finds Savannah falling in love with someone else.

I liked this book. I loved that Savannah had morals and didn't sleep around (in the beginning), or drink for that matter. It gave her character sincerity. Unfortunately, she did stray as the book went on. The book had more substance and heart than many of the other Sparks' books, which was a nice change. But the real redeeming quality of this book, was the ending. Without saying too much, I loved it!

Happy Reading
