I am always on the look out for books that will entertain both me and my children. This book did not disappoint and is worth reading AND listening too!

An adaptation of the classic fairy tale, Snow White, Fairest is set in the musical kingdom of Ayortha. And while the Snow White we know and love is beautiful beyond measure, the fairest of them all Ava is not beautiful, in fact she is down right ugly. Fortunately, she has another gift. Hers is the gift of song. A very handy gift when you live in Ayortha where everything is sung. So handy in fact that Prince Ijori is drawn to her because of it, and vain Queen Ivi wants to use it for her own ends.

Having read Ella Enchanted, I had wanted to read Fairest for a long time. When I finally picked it up, I enjoyed it so much more than I thought I would, and even more than the acclaimed Ella. Levine is very clever and works in even the smallest details from the classic tale. It is fun to read and will be enjoyed by anyone with a fairy-tale romantic heart.

~Happy Reading

As a side note, I read this book first, and then picked up the full cast audio version for my girls. I was not kidding when I said that there is a lot of songs in the book, and the audio version has full on musical scores for all of them. The singers are actually quite good ,and although it takes some time, it totally brought the book alive for my girls. I would definitely recommend this as a "listening book" for girls ages 8 and up. :)
