The 13th Reality book 3: The Blade of Shattered Hope

13th Reality Series: Book 3

My recommended reading age: 11 and up

After Tick's almost deadly use of his extreme power of Chi karda in destroying dark infinity, he is being home schooled for his and other's protection.  Things have been quiet for a few months, and Tick is beginning to feel more confident in his ability to use his skills for good.  Everything changes when Mistress change kidnaps Tick's family in an effort to keep him for thwarting her efforts to build a Utopian reality.  Worse, the horrible transformation imposed by Tick's attack on her in the 4th reality has rendered her even more mentally unbalanced than before.  It's a race as Tick and his friends struggle to save not only the billions of lives Jane is about to sacrifice, but the realities themselves.

I found this 3rd book in the 13th Reality series to be as exciting as the others.  The story was different enough that I didn't feel like I was rereading the same book as before.  There was much more violence in this book than the previous two, and the actions of Mistress Jane are much darker.  Beware that there are both adult and child kidnappings, animal violence, several attempted murders, a stabbing, and "ghosts".  I definitely wouldn't let young or sensitive kids read this book.  Somehow I had it in my head that this would be the last book in the series, but alas no.  I found this to be a disappointment, because as much as I like this series, I was ready for resolution.  I'm sure this was just a personal problem though, because my 15 year old is ready for more!
