Lexile Level Range: 380 - 650L
Mystery and Suspense Series
My Recommended Age: 9 and Up
The A-Z Mysteries, are about three good friends — Dink, Josh, and Ruth — who follow clues to solve mysteries and puzzles. The books are numbered in order from A to Z with clever titles correlating to the letter.

When my son's teacher first recommended these to me I thought, not another Encyclopedia Brown... Fortunately, I was pleasantly surprised. These three friends have a knack for solving puzzles and finding adventures. They are easy chapter books, that are enjoyable to read and not as predictable as one might think. Although you may enjoy reading them in order, it is not necessary.

There is nothing inappropriate, however, I felt like a few of the books were a little intense for the the targeted 2nd grader. On a personal note, my second grader didn't feel that way. (Maybe I just realized how dangerous the situation could have been...either that, or I am a wimp:)

The order of the books is:

THE ABSENT AUTHOR
THE BALD BANDIT
THE CANARY CAPER
THE DEADLY DUNGEON
THE EMPTY ENVELOPE
THE FALCON'S FEATHERS
THE GOOSE'S GOLD
THE HAUNTED HOTEL

THE KIDNAPPED KING
THE LUCKY LOTTERY
THE MISSING MUMMY

Happy Reading

  1. Seth is on Talking T Rex! He has enjoyed all so far- he will even read these on his own. Sometimes we all read together and do parts- Mom is always Ruth Rose.

  2. Hey, the family group reading aloud is an awesome idea! We have not done that, but it sounds like a hoot.
